What is the difference between a PK and a penalty shot

A soccer match is full of highs and lows, of goals scored and missed opportunities. One of the most dramatic moments in a soccer game can be when a team is awarded a penalty kick. A penalty kick is given when a player commits a foul inside the penalty area. This usually results in a direct free kick, but if the foul was committed by the goalkeeper or a defender, then the opposing team is given a penalty kick. A PK gives the attacking team an opportunity to score from 12 yards out, with only the goalkeeper to beat. This can be a nerve-wracking moment for both teams, as the outcome of the game can hinge on this one moment. In contrast, a PK is not always successful, and the ball may be saved or miss the goal altogether. Either way, it is sure to be a tense moment for everyone involved.

A penalty shot, on the other hand, is taken from the spot of the infraction. If a player commits a foul in the penalty area, the resulting penalty shot is taken from 12 yards out. If the foul was committed outside the penalty area, the penalty shot is taken from where the infringement occurred. The goalkeeper must stay on their line until the ball is struck, and they are only able to defend the goal with their hands if the ball was headed or kicked towards them from close range. If a player misses a penalty shot, the opposing team gets a goal kick. Penalty shots are often dramatic moments in a game, as they can be the difference between winning and losing.
